I just got back from a quick 19 mile overnight trip with Ben Smith of Goosefeet Gear.

We were supposed to be going out with 3 other UL backpackers from NC and SC, but something came up with each of them. Ben and I knocked out a loop consisting of sections of the Foothills, East Fork, and Chattooga River Trails in SC.

At one point, we straddled the NC – SC state line. We also walked passed Ellicot’s Rock which marks the NC – GA state line. This was meant to be a leisurely trip with the other guys where we could cover a few miles before hanging out and chatting gear. Ben and I did manage to discuss quite a lot. We dined on chorizo sausage with peppers and onions as well as roasted sweet potato salad for dinner and scrambled eggs with peppers, onions, and cheddar for breakfast. Ben and I both slept out in bivies with the clear weather and enjoyed the amazing star-lit sky. The temps wound up being a bit colder than we had expected and we awoke to frost covered quilts. All said and done though, we had a great trip and a lot of great discussion. Hopefully everyone can make the next trip.

Oh no, “..something came up with each of them.” – I feel kinda embarrassed now. Looks like you and Ben had a good trip though, food sounded delicious.
